How is tomorrow April? This month was spent mostly waiting for Spring Break. And enjoying every second of Spring Break!
As I think back on how it was to blog everyday I immediately think how much I loved blogging our before and after home series. I wish that I would have thought more creatively and continued to blog about our home. Those posts were by far my favorite to write.
I also have a whole new appreciation for all the bloggers who post new content every day. That is hard work! In addition, my sweet littles who write everyday. I have felt their pain of not having ideas and that will help me in my instruction after break.
A very sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to read any of my posts! I have so enjoyed reading your comments. See you next March!☺
Today we had to go to the doctor. It was our third time going to the pediatric ophthalmologist. Ever since W was born he has had blocked tear ducts. The kind that make his eyes all red and goopy and cause grandmas, moms, and kids to stop you in Target to ask what's wrong with his eyes. The kind that solicites advance from parents at swim, or anyone who you see. It's probably pink eye, an ear infection, teething. Nope. Just blocked tear ducts.
We really like the doctor. She's kind and calm. But she's late. Always. Very late. It's tricky to entertain a baby anywhere. Especially at a doctors office an hour past nap time. But we did it.
Besides the stress of keeping W busy for an hour while we waited for our appointment, we had to schedule surgery because the left eye still isn't open. The right one miraculously opened one day but the left is still blocked. I'm momma heart sank when we had to schedule it and I think I'll take today to be sad for us because I was really hoping it would open by itself. But there is still time and I'll just keep massaging his poor little eye and hoping with everything that it will too miraculously open on its own before the surgery.
Things I thought before I was a mom, that I laugh about now:
- My house will be just as clean 😂😂😂😂 babbaahahahahahahaa
- My house won't look like a toy store 😂😂
- My decor won't change because I have a baby.
- I will get my pre baby body back. Yea right.
- My kid won't drink juice-- he drinks it 2x a day.
- I won't race out of Target because I'm that person with the screaming kid.
- I thought I was tired.... hahahahaha
Moral of the story, don't judge... you never know what you might be that person with the kid who won't stay in the cart so you have to wonder the aisle trying to shop while keeping them safe.
Every night we have a sweet treat. Sometimes it's a Dove chocolate, a good beer, chocolate covered pretzels, and on special days, ice cream.
Today I wanted, NEEDED, ice cream. First real day of break, and I really needed some chocolate. But today, we don't have any chocolate. No Dove chocolates, not even chocolate chips. So I run through my options. Go out to pick some up at Target. No. Go to Cold Stone, which is what I really have a taste for. No. Brownie mix? Don't have any. Chocolate chips, I check the cabinet. Nope.
I open the freezer. There sits the rocky road ice cream that I don't like. I don't like the texture of the marshmallows. That's what you get for trying new ice cream. I stand there a minute staring at it thinking about how much I want Cold Stone. And how much I wish my husband would just go get it for me. I keep staring at that Rocky Road I don't like. Finally I figure it's my best option, slather it in chocolate sauce and whipped cream and eat it. Had to have some type of chocolate. But you better believe I'll be at target stocking up on the good stuff before tomorrow night!
Anyone struggling with blog topics about now? 🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋 I sure am. It made me think of many days in my classroom during writing.
In our new(ish) writing curriculum we teach mini lessons and then send our kiddos off to write. Often kids will say they are stuck or don't have an idea. We conference and I try to guide them to finding their own ideas. But we aren't supposed to give them any ideas but rather teach them how to find their own.
I'm feeling their pain this week. I've asked my husband at least 3x for ideas about what to write each day. I don't want him to guide me to think of an idea, or conference with me. I just want a freaking topic so I can write my blog. 🙈🙊
Next time a kid says their stuck and need help thinking of an idea... I may be a little more likely to give them an idea... not every time. But one time won't hurt. We all need help with ideas sometimes.
Yesterday we were browsing Netflix and ended up on my second favorite food show, Chef's Table. Even though this is my second favorite food show, it was by far my favorite episode of the show. It was about Ivan Ramen.
He was fascinating, talking about his technique of making Ramen and his very interesting life. So of course today we had to get Ramen from anywhere close to the house. After watching one of the best talk about Ramen, we were super impressed. Brad also forgot to put the broth on his so...... user error? I had sushi and it was not fantastic. But we have a date night coming up and are hoping to try some fantastic Ramen. Suggestions?!
As a new mom play places can be overwhelming and downright scary. Everyone seems to know the rules and what to do, kids running and playing, moms sitting and chatting.
Well, today we braved our first kid play place. It's called Ground for Hope. It was intimidating at right but we walked in and it was bright, clean and open. Not super crowded, even though it is free on the weekends! There is an adorable little coffee shop with food, tea and coffee. Tables and chairs to relax or have lunch or drink some coffee. We went through to a part just for little ones. It was many different rooms each with exciting, fun and CLEAN toys to play with.
We were able to enjoy watching W play in all different rooms and I even got to use my Spanish to talk with a sweet grandma.
It was such a great experience and we can't wait to go back!
Tomorrow begins the first day of spring break... and I feel like a thousand pound weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I always remind myself that the weeks before a break are always the worst-- you have to earn a break. 😝
Each year before a break I always tell the kids how much I will miss their sweet little faces and that I can't wait to see them when we come back. They usually suggest I look at their pictures on my phone and I assure them I will.
This year, with a baby at home, I'm not sure I really have reminded them how much I will miss them over breaks. I'm too busy daydreaming of how I can see my own baby all day. But today was no different, the kids asked if I had enough pictures on my phone so I could see those sweet faces all break long. I assured them I did. And as I watched them run, laugh and play in the warm weather the last few minutes before break, I was reminded that I really will miss those sweet faces this next week.
Every night after W goes to bed, lunch is made for the next day, house is straightened up, Brad and I head downstairs and relax and watch a couple shows. Each night we have our favorite shows we watch. Big Bang is one of our favorites but it's not on tonight. So we start brainstorming what to watch. We usually default to Parts Unknown, Big Bang reruns, or HGTV. Tonight we decided to try a show Brad's parents suggested, Hunted. It's basically a reality show of people trying to avoid being found by law enforcement. Definitely an interesting show. It will do for some relaxing before bed.
Target... I love you so. You have clothes and home decor and ice cream... and Starbucks. Today I got to go to Target by myself. After W went to sleep I snuck out and got to wonder the aisles slowly admiring everything. Usually we go to Target at the crack of dawn on Sunday mornings. I usually haven't even brushed my teeth and we have to race through target with a baby in the back of the cart trying not to be those people with the screaming kid in the store. But today I got to wonder each aisle and admire all the things I shouldn't buy. And it made me think of this funny article so I wanted to share it with you! Enjoy :)
